Senior Full-Stack Developer (Frontend-Heavy)

--afi Global--

What are we looking for?

We're seeking a talented and motivated senior full-stack developer — strongest on the frontend, with enough backend chops to ship features end-to-end — to join our small but established event-tech SaaS scale-up.

Note: This is a fully remote position with flexible hours. Some overlap with the CET or EET time-zones is required.

As part of our product team, you'll focus on solving challenging technical problems and shipping features to a global customer base that includes some of the world's biggest brands!

Why us?

  • A very competitive salary

  • You'll have the chance to work on the codebase of a unique SaaS product where you can truly see the impact of your work

  • You'll be challenged daily to grow in a truly global team within a fast-growing SaaS scale-up

  • We have a strong people-first culture that offers you the opportunity to grow and develop your skills in an environment that provides you:

  • flexible working hours

  • a great work-life balance

  • A team that’s here to support you and help you succeed

What will your daily work look like?

  • As a full-stack developer, you'll own features end-to-end — from the UI all the way down to the database — and be involved in the product development process from start to finish. You'll enjoy a high level of ownership of your work.

  • Build and refine the React and React Native (Expo) applications that our customers and their attendees use every day, with a strong eye for UX, performance, and accessibility.

  • Drop into the Rails backend when your feature needs it — extending APIs, writing migrations, and making sure the full vertical slice is solid before it ships.

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, designers, and other developers to ship features into production.

  • Consume (and occasionally extend) jsonapi.org-compliant REST APIs built in Ruby on Rails.

  • Work with React, React Native, Expo, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, GCP, PostgreSQL, GitHub, and occasionally help maintain, upgrade and improve our CI/CD pipeline (based on Kubernetes).

  • Work in short development cycles in an agile fashion, deploying immediately when features are ready.

What does our tech-stack look like?

Here is a sneak-peek at some of the core parts of our tech-stack:

  • React, React Native & Expo (Frontend / Mobile)

  • TypeScript (Frontend)

  • Ruby on Rails (Backend)

  • Postgres (Database)

  • Kubernetes (Deployment / Infrastructure)

  • GitHub / GitHub Actions (Change management)

  • Cypress / Detox / BrowserStack / RSpec (QA & Testing)

What kind of developer are you?

  • You have at least 8+ years (ideally 10+) of hands-on development experience, with the bulk of that on the frontend — deep React experience is essential, and meaningful React Native (ideally Expo) experience is a strong plus. Exceptions will be made for exceptionally skilled candidates.

  • You're comfortable working across the stack. You may not be a Rails specialist, but you have experience with backend development, can easily read a Rails codebase, extend an endpoint, occasionally craft models/ controllers and write a migration, and add the tests to back it up — enough that you're not blocked waiting on a backend dev to finish your feature. Being keen to learn and develop in this regard is required, though.

  • Experience architecting frontend systems and complex features in a scalable, performant, and maintainable manner — including state management, design system thinking, and shared code between web and mobile. We don’t just ship code - we ship well architected and planned code.

  • You possess good communication skills and the ability to discuss software design decisions with your colleagues. You have excellent written and spoken English skills, enabling you to express your thoughts clearly.

  • You have a keen interest (and optionally, prior experience) in machine learning / AI / GenAI — experience here is not a must, but a keen interest is definitely needed and a huge plus!

  • You have a generalist attitude and strong teamwork / collaboration skills.

  • You have hands-on experience shipping and operating production frontend and mobile applications at scale.

  • You understand how the basic services of a web application work together.

  • You're comfortable enough with relational databases (preferably Postgres) to write your own performant / optimized queries and reason about schema changes when your feature calls for it.

  • You like to build features that are fast, performant, and a pleasure to use.

  • You understand HTTP, REST APIs, and JSON.

  • You know that the best possible code you can write is simple, well-tested, and open to change — the kind of code that is easy to read and follow.

  • You are humble and always looking to improve — our team is super supportive and friendly — and we are constantly learning from each other!

The screening process

The screening process comprises four core stages:

  • Initial screening call

  • Online coding test

  • Technical interview & test review

  • Using generative AI in a limited capacity in the test is acceptable, but vibe-coding is not. The technical interview is rigorous, and will dive into specific aspects of your coding test submission - but you’ll do well as long as you can back up your work.

  • Culture-fit interview
